On 9 July, 2019 Höegh Trapper returned to the port of Mackay on its Europe to USA, Mexico and Oceania service. To commemorate the occasion representatives from North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, traditional owners and council members from Mackay as well as customers and service providers were invited to tour the vessel.
Being the largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier in the world, the guests were welcomed to showcase the vessel’s flexibility and wide range of cargoes it can cater to.

Since August 2018, Höegh Autoliners pioneered to add Mackay to its service in Australia as customers required a direct connectivity to North Queensland for their breakbulk commodities. With its strategic location, the port provides a convenient gateway for heavy equipment to the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland to supply both the mining and agricultural industry.

Shipping heavy equipment brings several unique logistical challenges. Items such as agricultural machinery or construction equipment are not only large and heavy but rarely break down into smaller components. This makes the loading, transportation, and unloading a lot more complex, introducing potential safety concerns and costly handling procedures. To add to the complexities, heavy equipment shipping overseas is most commonly required for projects, which are often tied to strict deadlines and timelines. Therefore, it usually needs to reach its final destination on time, while any delays could introduce significant costs too.
