Uniting the World Against Corruption
The 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day focuses on the link between anti-corruption and peace, security, and development. We can all play an active role in preventing corruption and tackling this shattering crime.
Although complex as a phenomenon, corruption must be fought against in complete unity and by every single law-abiding part of society.
Corruption is a widespread challenge for companies involved in world trade. It weakens democratic institutions, reduces economic development, and contributes to governmental instability.
At Höegh Autoliners, we believe that creating a culture of compliance and integrity will drive value for our company and for society in general. We believe it is vital to foster an atmosphere of trust, and we apply a zero-tolerance policy towards bribery and corruption.
Transparency, integrity and collaborative action
Transparency is a valuable tool in addressing the challenges posed by corruption, and we encourage our employees to speak up if something doesn't seem right - not least on 9 December, United Nations’ International Anti-Corruption Day.
Our Whistleblowing Policy recognizes the importance of reporting anonymously and protects against retaliation. A whistleblower helpline is created to lower the barrier to reporting issues that could be questionable.
But the fight must not be up to individuals alone.
Collaborative efforts are essential. We believe companies must exchange best practices and work together to involve both governments and civil society in the fight against corruption.
As an international industry, the shipping industry has the power to make a difference, and it is our responsibility to take this opportunity. Höegh Autoliners takes pride in being one of the co-founders and an active member of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN). MACN is a global business network working towards its vision of a maritime industry free of corruption that enables fair trade to benefit society and for all.
By adopting the MACN Anti-Corruption Principles, communicating progress on implementation, sharing best practices, and creating awareness of industry challenges, we are promoting good corporate practices for tackling bribes, facilitation payments and other forms of corruption.
With this, we take a stand against corruption and work in several arenas to abolish the use of corruption, bribery, and facilitation payments.

A HAPPY SHIP - My life on Höegh Trooper Week 2
Tamatave, Madagascar, was our first port of call. While strolling the dusty streets of this former French colony, I felt like a prisoner on the run. The crew didn’t have sufficient time to go ashore, but they spent their time in port wisely, bartering scrap metal and worn shoes for fruits and fresh fish with the locals.

International Anti-Corruption Day 2024
December 9th marks International Anti-Corruption Day, a moment to reaffirm our commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability. This year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity,” recognizes the responsibility we all have in standing united with the next generation with the aim of fostering a determination to dismantle corrupt practices and establish lasting change. But it also spotlights the unique role of young people in the fight for a future built on ethical standards and fair opportunities. With 1.8 billion young people worldwide, their voice and engagement are essential to fostering societies resilient to corruption. Today’s youth must be empowered to champion integrity within their communities and globally, equipped with tools and education that cultivate values of transparency, accountability, and justice. Corruption robs young people of educational opportunities, job prospects, healthcare access, and a stable environment. And it contributes to broadening the social and environmental challenges and differences that we all have an obligation to fight.
